"There is no waste of time in life like that of making explanations." ~ Benjamin Disraeli
I am alive. Sort of. As much as someone with no motivation whatsoever can be alive. There's really not much for me to say, but I'll try to draw it out so I can look like I'm accomplishing something here. That seems to be my approach to a lot of things in life. Anyway, my corner of the world has thawed out a little, so even though it's still cold, at least we're not all trapped in ice anymore. I feel like I've kind of been floating through life halfway asleep lately, but I'm trying desperately to drag myself out of this giant rut I'm in and do something valuable with my time. I did manage to post some of my artwork on my website, so that's new I guess. Also managed to make a few bracelets, but nothing I'm particularly proud of. Tonight when I get home from work, I'm going to force myself to make a necklace... as long as the two little girls I watch don't beat me up or something. Yeah, there's always that "if" factor in my life. If I'm not too tired, if I feel well enough, if there's nothing on the tv that requires my attention, if if if. Anywho, I'll try to post a progress report later. For now, off to work. Super Babysitter away! Woosh!
You do remember what Yoda said ... "do, or do not, there is no try"?
ReplyDelete90% (or some-such ridiculously high figure) of life is just showing up. Success follows (even at the times it seems that success is so far behind it will never catch up).
It always makes me feel better when people quote Star Wars, especially when the quote comes from Master Yoda. Geeks of the world unite! Or something.
ReplyDeleteBut as right as you may be, Mr. Starr, it really scares me how much you sounded like my father right there. You basically just said two of his favorite things to tell me, Yoda quote and all. Just don't tell him I said you were right, because that means that he's right too, and daughters are never supposed to tell their fathers that they're right. It ruins the whole balance of power.
Ha ha, I won't be telling him, fear not. One of your dad's most endearing/least endearing traits is his favorite online expression, ITYS. I try to refrain from using myself, even though I so often am right (gee, hope my wife doesn't read this, I feel her opinion about my percentage of correctness may differ LoL).
ReplyDeleteI don't have conversations with your dad very often, we never knew each other in real life, and I wasn't ever a controller .. we have in common, mainly, that we're old, we are both retired from Federal Service under the same retirement plan, and we both believe there's a lot of opportunity out there that often goes to waste becuase of negative thinking and concern with what others think.
Just be you. But BE it, don't wait to 'become someone' ... you already are.
A hint about how you create a market. Back when your dad was still working he used to write articles about safety and air traffic control. Extremely boring to the 99% of the world who aren't involved with those issues.
When he retired, he started a blog on the same subjects, plus his analysis of economic and political conditions, mainly in the USA. And his photos.
A snap judgment might be that he only progressed toward a broader audience by a small increment ... but a snap judgment would be wrong as rain in this case ... take a look at his page views/readership numbers. Looks as if there is an audience out there after all.
Some of the most successful blogs are built around detailing the process of things, and even teaching how to do things ... creating a design, modifying a fanciful idea into apiece that is practical to build, the actual building ... soldering, gluing, lost wax casting, etc., etc.
Describe processes, tech, and people will come to read. To put it into crash, basic economic terms, from readers (and searchers who find the articles from search engines) come prospects and customers. My thoughts anyway.
(and no need for the Mr. Starr, just plain Dave will do ... or anything else except 'late for supper')
